Every Young athlete has daydreamed of a scenario in their sport where you win the game for your team off a big play. The overtime touchdown, buzzerbeater, or winning in penalties. Or a walk-off homer to win your hometown the Little League World Series. That’s exactly what Louis Lappe did, Sunday, for California.
Going into the bottom of the 6th Lappe, the third baseman, steps up to the plate with an all-square 5-5 ballgame. It wouldn’t have even been 5-5 if it wasn’t for Curacao’s, Nasir El-Ossais, hammering a grand slam with two outs in the top of the 5th. With a 1-0 count, Lappe gets one right down the middle and hammers it to left field. You knew it was out as soon as it left the bat. As every Curacao player stands there still, in disbelief, Lappe skips to each base throwing his arms up as his team goes to crowd the plate. Coach Danny Boehle said in the postgame interview, “When I knew he was coming up (Lappe) I was shocked when they pitched to him,”... “baseball is coming back to El Segundo.” Louis Lappe won the LLWS for California HAM STYLE! Should've never given him the heater.
